Das zweitägige Symposium The Participatory Site diskutiert die Schnittstellen zwischen bildender Kunst, sozialer Arbeit und kultureller Bildung und will neue Allianzen ausloten. Anlässlich der documenta fifteen als erstes partizipatives Großereignis in der bildenden Kunst und der Anwesenheit des niederländischen Künstlers Reinaart Vanhoe in Kassel auch über die documenta hinaus, laden wir zu einem Erfahrungsaustausch zwischen den Niederlanden und Deutschland ein. Herzlich eingeladen sind Akteur*innen aus Soziokultur, Ausstellungsräumen, Institutionen wie Museen, Interessenvertreter*innen, Bildungsorganisationen, Kunst- und Kulturvermittler*innen und alle weiteren Interessierten.

Hintergrund
Sowohl zeitgenössische bildende Kunst als auch Soziokultur nutzen Begriffe wie “Partizipation”, “Teilhabe” und “dritte Orte”. Diese beschreiben die Möglichkeit der aktiven Teilnahme an Kultur- und Bildungsangeboten, der Einbindung und Anerkennung des Publikums und der künstlerischen Fokussierung auf die Teilnehmenden selbst. In den Niederlanden und in Deutschland haben Künstler*innen, Institutionen und freie Akteur*innen diesbezüglich in den letzten Jahren eine unterschiedliche Praxis entwickelt. Groß angelegte, praxisorientierte Partizipationsprojekte aus den Niederlanden treffen in Deutschland auf konzeptuelle Diskurse zur kulturellen Bildung und Empowerment. In diesem Kontext nimmt The Participatory Site die vielfältigen Bedeutungen des englischen Wortes „site“ von Standort über Fundplatz bis hin zur Baustelle als Leitfaden, um im Rückblick auf die documenta fifteen einige Einsichten bzw. steile Thesen zu formulieren.  

Diese Veranstaltung wurde von der niederländischen diplomatischen Vertretung in Deutschland angeregt, um länderübergreifenden kulturellen Austausch nachhaltig zu förden. Sie wird außerdem unterstützt vom Modellprogramm „Utopolis – Soziokultur im Quartier“ im Rahmen der ressortübergreifenden Strategie Soziale Stadt „Nachbarschaften stärken, Miteinander im Quartier“ des Bundesministeriums für Wohnen, Stadtentwicklung und Bauwesen und der Beauftragten für Kultur und Medien.

The two-day symposium The Participatory Site discusses the interfaces between visual arts, social work and cultural education and aims to explore new alliances. On the occasion of documenta fifteen as the first major participatory event in the visual arts and the presence of the Dutch artist Reinaart Vanhoe in Kassel beyond documenta, we invite you to an exchange of experiences between the Netherlands and Germany. Actors from socio-culture, exhibition spaces, institutions such as museums, interest groups, educational organisations, art and cultural mediators and all other interested parties are cordially invited.

Background
Both contemporary visual arts and socio-culture use terms such as "participation", "sharing" and "third places". These describe the possibility of active participation in cultural and educational offerings, audience involvement and recognition, and an artistic focus on the participants themselves. In the Netherlands and Germany, artists, institutions and independent actors have developed different practices in this regard in recent years. Large-scale, practice-oriented participation projects from the Netherlands meet conceptual discourses on cultural education and empowerment in Germany. In this context, The Participatory Site takes the multiple meanings of the English word "site" from location to finding place to building site as a guide to formulate some insights as well as steep theses in retrospect of documenta fifteen. 

This event was initiated by the Dutch diplomatic representation in Germany in order to sustainably promote transnational cultural exchange. It is also supported by the model programme "Utopolis - Socioculture in the Neighbourhood" within the framework of the interdepartmental strategy "Socially Integrative City: Strengthening Neighbourhoods, Living Together in the Neighbourhood" of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
